[12th Edition - MYC] AI for Alt Text & Voice Guidelines
Good afternoon everyone!
Welcome back to the journey of building the future of higher ed social media intelligence.
Thank you for following along. If you're new here, the purpose of this newsletter is to keep y'all informed on what's working & new, and the occasional ask for feedback to help shape the product further.
Can you believe it's been 12 weeks of updates — that's crazy! I was sincerely hoping we'd be live by now, but nonetheless we are getting really close! There are a few things out of my control, so I've been focusing on some side projects and fitting everything in — this week, I took a look at AI.
Everything introduced this week is based on an analysis of the top 300 best-performing higher ed posts per platform. Each platform has such a different audience, and I think that shines through in the data on what's working across each one. I will eventually get around to writing a thought leadership post, but here are some interesting takeaways for all of you to get a little behind-the-scenes look at what the AI is weighing on effective captions.
Key Insights on Captions By Platform

WHAT’S NEW
AI Voice Guidelines
In the spirit of consolidating tools, we've introduced Voice Guidelines. It analyzes the best captions in higher ed across all platforms, and you can work together to create guidelines that then read your posts to understand how you like to write. Eventually, you'll be able to create multiple voices for different accounts and situations.

Walking through setting up Guidelines
AI Alt Text Generation
A small but increasingly valuable feature with upcoming WCAG requirements. Don't think about alt text — simply click "Create" in your workflow to give your images descriptive alt text.

AI Alt Text Generating
Creating Captions with Guidelines
Putting everything together, you're able to work on your captions with guidelines. You can Create New Captions, Clean Up, Rewrite in Your Voice, and Create Rest of Captions, which will rework your current caption for other platforms. Combined with alt text generation, it will use that along with any other notes from the idea as context. Finally, you're able to work back and forth to get the caption exactly where you want it.
There's certainly some fine-tuning and weighting to work through — so if you play around and think "does X too much" or "too much weighting on Y," that's very valuable to know!

Started with Finals, uploaded Images of Grilling, Based Caption around that.
Minor Improvements
Once again, we had a handful of smaller tasks completed — worth noting, but not big enough for GIFs.
Added who created what tasks to Tasks
Fixed bugs around inspiration collections

AI?
What are your thoughts on these applications of AI? I sincerely only want AI to be value-add and not forced. What other applications are you currently using that would be helpful to implement?
As always, I appreciate you all for your help so far. I'm very excited to keep this going. Be on the lookout on Fridays for my quick updates.
We're always seeking your valuable advice and feedback. If you have any insights, thoughts, or ideas that you believe can contribute to our growth, we're all ears.
Thank you, once again, for being a part of our journey.
Best regards,
Blake
